Upon application to the Executive Board, and with its approval and the approval of a majority of members voting at a regular meeting, life membership may be granted to:
- A member who has maintained membership for 40 years. Up to 15 years credit may be granted for membership in Associations of other States provided that the most recent 25 years was in the Alabama Association.
- A member who has completed 35 years as a member of the Association and has retired. Up to 10 years credit may be granted for membership in Associations of other States, provided that the most recent 25 years was in the Alabama Association.
- A member who has reached 65 years of age, has retired, and has been a member of the Association continuously since graduation from veterinary college. Credit may be granted for membership in Associations of other States, provided that the most recent 1/2 (one-half) of the period of membership was in the Alabama Association.
- A member who has retired due to infirmity.
For this purpose, a retired member is one who has ceased all regular employment, and whose annual earnings from occasional professional activity or other employment do not exceed the maximum earnings limit established by the U.S. Government to remain qualified for social security retirement benefits.
Life Members shall be eligible to vote and hold committee appointments but shall not hold elected office. If a Life member of less than 40 years membership returns to regular employment, this member shall be required to revert to Active member status. |
